Learn about Garbage Classifications
Minamata started with 20 classifications of garbage to change garbage into resources in 1993. Currently, there are 300 garbage stations in many areas of the city, and the garbage is further classified into 22 types with instructions for the people in charge of promoting recycling.
According to the volume of recyclable garbage from each area, profit from the sale of recyclable garbage is returned to each residents’ association.
Learn more from the city residents about the approach to creating a “zero garbage community” which is what Minamata-city and the residents are working on together for.
